Things to Do Near Pocono Pines: A Local Guide for Your Stay
If you're searching for things to do near Pocono Pines, you've landed in one of the most quietly versatile pockets of the Pocono Mountains. This stretch of northeastern Pennsylvania punches well above its weight — within a half-hour of town you've got whitewater, waterparks, ski slopes, state forests, casinos, and one of NASCAR's fastest tracks. We're the hosts behind Slanted Stone Chalet, a four-bedroom luxury cabin that sits right in the middle of all of it, and we've put together this honest guide to help you plan your trip — whether you're booking with us or not.
Outdoor Adventures
Tobyhanna State Park (15 Minutes Away)
This is our go-to recommendation for guests who want a full day outside without a lot of logistics. Tobyhanna State Park has a 170-acre lake with a swimming beach, canoe and kayak rentals, and miles of well-maintained hiking trails that loop through dense hemlock forest. In winter, the trails convert to cross-country ski and snowshoe routes. Fishing is excellent year-round — bass, perch, and pickerel are all common. Bring a cooler, park once, and make a whole day of it.
Bradys Lake (12 Minutes Away)
Smaller and quieter than Tobyhanna, Bradys Lake is a local favorite for kayaking and paddleboarding. Because it gets less traffic, you'll often have the water almost entirely to yourself on a weekday morning. There's no rental equipment on-site, so bring your own or rent from one of the outfitters in town before heading over.
Delaware Water Gap (30 Minutes Away)
If your group is up for a longer excursion, the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is absolutely worth the thirty-minute drive. The Appalachian Trail crosses here, and hikes like Dingmans Falls (a short, flat walk to a stunning waterfall) and Mount Tammany (a steeper scramble with panoramic ridge views) offer two very different experiences in the same park. In summer, outfitters on the New Jersey side rent tubes and kayaks for river floats. In fall, the foliage along the ridgeline is genuinely spectacular.
Thrills and Entertainment
Pocono Raceway (11 Minutes Away)
Even if motorsports aren't your thing, Pocono Raceway occasionally hosts concerts, festivals, and driving experiences throughout the year — it's not just race weekends. But if you happen to be visiting during a NASCAR Cup Series weekend, the atmosphere is electric and well worth experiencing. Check their event calendar before your trip; it changes every season.
Camelback Mountain (20 Minutes Away)
In winter, Camelback is the anchor attraction for most ski trips to this part of the Poconos — 34 trails, 10 lifts, and solid snowmaking infrastructure mean conditions are usually reliable from December through March. Come summer, Camelback transforms into an adventure park with a mountain coaster, zip lines, and a ropes course. It's a legitimate full-day destination in both seasons.
Kalahari Waterpark (14 Minutes Away)
This is the largest indoor waterpark in the United States, and it's genuinely impressive. For families with younger kids or for groups who want a guaranteed good time regardless of weather, Kalahari delivers. Plan for a full day. Expect crowds on weekends and school holidays — weekday visits are noticeably more relaxed. They have decent dining on-site, but the resort food is pricey, so eat a big breakfast before you go.
Mount Airy Casino (20 Minutes Away)
A solid option for an evening out — table games, slots, a spa, and several restaurants including a steakhouse and a buffet. The casino floor is lively on Friday and Saturday nights without being overwhelming. It's a good pick if your group wants a low-key night away from the cabin.
Things to Do Near Pocono Pines When the Weather Turns
This region doesn't shut down when it rains or snows — it just shifts indoors. A few reliable options: the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg (about 35 minutes) books nationally touring acts and is a genuinely great small venue. The Pocono Mountains area also has several breweries and cideries worth a stop. Shawnee Craft Brewery in Shawnee-on-Delaware is a local favorite with solid drafts and a relaxed taproom.
And honestly? Some of the best "things to do near Pocono Pines" are right at the cabin itself. The Finnish barrel sauna is the real deal — not a steam room, not an infrared box, but a traditional dry sauna that takes about 45 minutes to heat up and is worth every minute of the wait. After a day on the slopes or the trail, rotating between the sauna and the outdoor hot tub with a drink in hand and nothing but trees in every direction is hard to beat. The game loft with shuffleboard, the stone firepit with the s'mores setup, the ski lift chair swing out back — guests consistently tell us they didn't expect to spend as much time at the cabin as they did. That's a good problem to have.
Plan Your Stay
Whether you're coming for the slopes in January or the waterways in July, the Pocono Pines area rewards visitors who do a little planning. Mix one or two big outings with some slower mornings, and you'll leave feeling like you actually got away.
